About RunningMS

Hi, I’m Becky! Thanks for stopping by!  This blog is coming to you from the great state of Wisconsin where the beer flows freely and we like our foods fried.  I am married to the best husband ever and together we have a beautiful German Shepherd and two very spoiled cats.  I love running, working out, pinteresting, reading and learning.  It took me a long time to get to a place where I was ready to share my story but I am finally there.  In August of 2010 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  Now, I am incredibly stubborn and am a bit of a control freak, so when I was diagnosed I was not going to let some disease dictate how I was going to live my life and what was going to happen to my mind/body.  I let myself be sad for about half a second then I decided that I am going to run MS like a boss and it was not going to run me.   How exactly does one run MS?  I started by reading everything I could, knowledge is power after all.  From all of that reading I decided that there were things I could do to stack the chips in my favor.  I started running, yes the girl who hated running and could not run a mile, even in high school, is now a full fledged runner, black toenail and all!  I Crossfit 2xs a week, don’t worry I am not recruiting for the cult.  I started being more conscious of what I was eating.  I take my medicine (most of the time).  I am an informed patient and I am active in my care.  I have a great team of medical professionals behind me.  I got rid of the negative in my life.  I took some time to focus on me and getting myself well.  It has been a 3+ year process of healing and learning but every moment has been worth it.  My blog posts will go further into detail about my journey and how I got to where I am today, along with all things running.  All of the resources I will share have been tried and researched by me and I really believe in them.  Please remember that I am not a doctor or trainer so what works for me may not work for you and as with everything please discuss with your doctor before jumping in with both feet.

When I was newly diagnosed a lot of the information I was getting was seriously scary.  I mean who wants to think about long term disability, mobility assistance or walking aids in their early 30s?  Is that what my future was going to be? Thankfully, my future is still bright and unassisted.  RunningMS was born as a way for me to share what I have learned on this crazy journey and hopefully make it less scary.  My goal is to not only offer hope and support to the newly diagnosed but to also inspire those who have not been diagnosed.

In addition to my hobbies I also work full time in IT for a local municipality and have made some great friends there and I look forward to going to work everyday. I won’t go into too much detail regarding my job because it is government and being in IT makes me hyper aware of the powers of the internet.

Typically, I am a woman of few words, so expect my posts to be short and to the point.  I hope my to the point style is informative but if you have questions please feel free to ask!

I recently signed up to be an Ambassador to MS Run the US if you would like to help me reach my fundraising goal you can donate here: Rebecca’s Fundraising Page Thank you!
